So...One fine day, just after my 14th wedding anniversary, I was sitting and wondering about where did my creative juices go ? What happened to me ? Where was my joie de vivre ? I was stuck in a draining job, which was sucking out all the happiness in me. I'd become a couch potato ! So, i decided to do something about it.
My friends and family always said that i have a pretty decent vocabulary and that i could do better if i actually put it to use. So...i decided to give writing a go :)
It wasn't long before I started researching blogs and how to create them. So, i surfed the web and read up a few articles and pretty soon landed back to my google account. Lo and behold, i found that i had actually initiated a blog page though never saw it to fruition. it was on blogger and linked to my gmail account. But then, not only did i want to blog about interesting things, but i also wanted to write about my experiences around traveling, eating out, cooking etc. So, i decided that the best option for me would be to make my first website.
The first challenge was to figure out a name, a name which would be easy to remember, something which articulated my afore mentioned desires and most importantly a name which was available for me to buy ! I was pretty sure that i did not want to build something on a 'free' site...there's nothing really free out there. And it can be pretty costly in the long run ! Also, if i invested some money, i would be compelled to actually 'build' something :)
Trust me, it's not easy to figure out all the geek stuff on making websites which is out there.
Added June 2018 ::
I'd bought a domain and wrote a few things. Even published it online. But didn't really tell a lot of people, family, friends - just a select few.
Trouble was - buying a domain name was just a part of the investment. I had to also connect it to a website ( the website builder site), which was an extra investment. Then there were technical challenges to connecting it. The www is not very helpful, if you don't have exact search parameters. Or it can totally confuse the shit out of you. Which is why i try not to research on diseases. It's very scary.
I did some research on a few website builders...even started off with a template on zoho...got some feedback from a few folks... but I, by myself was not happy with the outcome. It was so so....it wasn't even decent, let alone good, in my eyes.
So, i put it on the back burner....and forgot all about it....till June 2018.
I came back to the written word... the website design... the left over stuff... the incomplete stuff. Did some more research....
Finally, i settled on Wix, to build my website. It offers some decent templates and can be learnt on your own, if you're willing to invest a couple of weekends :) I did.
The output is for YOU to see. I'm satisfied with what i've put up so far - from a design perspective. My writing, on the other hand, needs to be better - its halfway decent...but not good enough.
A few other names i thought of, before settling on this one...and maybe just maybe, i'll resist this list
