So... I think cooking is the best stress buster ever !
I know folks who fag, binge drink, fornicate, watch TV mindlessly, etc etc all in the name of relieving stress.....I say…Balls to them ! None of the above actually help relieve stress. They degrade your lifespan, your quality of life takes a downturn. And at the end of it all, makes you feel bad about yourself. It’s downright ugly in the long run. Of course, there are other things which folks do, which is good…like yoga. To each, his/her own.
Me...I cook.
Cooking ensures that you immerse yourself in the process of cleaning, cutting, chopping, peeling, boiling, frying, etc. coz if you don’t you’ll either cut or burn yourself. And you really don’t want to hurt yourself ! Which is why, it focuses your concentration, balances your mind and makes you forget everything else. So, the crappy stuff which causes stress, takes a backseat and you feel better afterwards.
The afterglow... i call it :)
It's got nothing to do with people praising what you've cooked. It's about the satisfaction derived from doing something which caused you to immerse yourself fully. To give in to it.
I've realized that i need to be alone in the kitchen. Maybe, i want my space. Maybe, I don't want to listen to instructions. Maybe, i just want to be alone. Maybe, it's all of the above.
This is 'me' time.
